Kaylana Lake is located 8 kilometers west of Jodhpur City on the road to Jaisalmer. Pratap Singh built this man-made lake in 1872. It is a massive lake that covers an area of 84 square kilometers and has depths ranging from 35 to 50 feet depending on the level of water. Birdwatchers are in for a treat during the winter season when sedges of Siberian Cranes visit the lake. Kaylana Lake is the city of Jodhpur's and the surrounding areas' sole source of drinking water.


Kaylana Lake is a 145-year-old lake that is truly breathtaking. The attraction is suitable for all visitors, including families, couples, and birdwatching enthusiasts. It offers something for everyone. The lake is surrounded by the majestic Aravalli Knolls, providing an ideal setting for some memorable photographs.   • The motor boating at Kaylana jheel has a seating of around 15 people that takes you on a ride of around 15-20 minutes around the lake.

  • Speed boats have a seating capacity of 6-7 people, and it takes around 5-10 minutes for a full ride around the lake. For adventurous people, this type of boat is always a preference.

Because Jodhpur is so close to the Thar Desert, it is best to visit during the winter, especially between October and March.


How to Reach Kaylana Lake


Kaylana Lake is approximately 9 kilometers from the Main Jodhpur Bus Stand. It is also not far from the railway station, which is only 10 kilometers away. If you have flown in, we recommend that you take the Chapasani Road route, as Kaylana Lake is about 14 kilometers away from the airport. You can also book a taxi service in jodhpur for a better experience. There is no availability of public transportation to this place. For group tours, you can also book a tempo traveller in Jodhpur.


Interesting Facts


To build the artificial lake, Pratap Singh destroyed existing gardens and palaces constructed by rulers Bhim Singh and Takhat Singh in prehistoric times.

The lake’s primary inflow i.e. Hati Canal is actually connected to Indira Gandhi Canal.

The lake’s primary outflow goes to Takhat Sagar and Umaid Sagar.
