Kaylana Lake is located 8 kilometers west of Jodhpur City on the road to Jaisalmer. Pratap Singh built this man-made lake in 1872. It is a massive lake that covers an area of 84 square kilometers and has depths ranging from 35 to 50 feet depending on the level of water. Birdwatchers are in for a treat during the winter season when sedges of Siberian Cranes visit the lake. Kaylana Lake is the city of Jodhpur's and the surrounding areas' sole source of drinking water.

If you have flown in, we recommend that you take the Chapasani Road route, as Kaylana Lake is about 14 kilometers away from the airport. You can also book a taxi service in jodhpur for a better experience. There is no availability of public transportation to this place. For group tours, you can also book a tempo traveller in Jodhpur.

To build the artificial lake, Pratap Singh destroyed existing gardens and palaces constructed by rulers Bhim Singh and Takhat Singh in prehistoric times.
The lake’s primary inflow i.e. Hati Canal is actually connected to Indira Gandhi Canal.
The lake’s primary outflow goes to Takhat Sagar and Umaid Sagar.
